Copyright for Artists and Crafts People 0

Posted on May 12, 2010 by Bob

Art copyright law can be a confusing area. Isn’t all law? Not many artists or craft people have any real idea of how copyrighting their designs works at all.

There’s always someone on a craft forum who knows a little about art copyright, and they’re always willing to share their knowledge. The problem is, it ought to carry a warning that says something like “although I believe this to be true I am not a qualified professional so you should always seek legal advice”.

Except legal advice is never cheap so most of us don’t bother – although we might feel we should.

Copyright for Artists and CraftersIf you’re anything like me, and you’re concerned about how to copyright art or craft and whether it’s necessary, Sarah Feingold has just come to your rescue, because Sarah is not just a jeweler, she is also an attorney!

Who better to write a book on copyright for artists and crafts people?

Sarah’s book isn’t a huge thing that will take you days to read through (and leave you bewildered at the end), it’s practical advice for craftspeople concerned about where they stand with copyright law.

The headline on her website says it all really: How to protect your work without hiring a copyright attorney. In just over 30 pages it covers the vital things you need to know about the laws as they are applied in the USA.

At $39.00 it isn’t cheap – but not surprising when you consider the hundreds of dollars employing an attorney would cost you. However, for a limited time Sarah has agreed to let you have the book for just $14.00 if you click this link.

I don’t know how long she’ll keep the offer up for so you probably ought to check it out asap. Click here for full details.

Well here’s a new category for selling crafts online – a craft book review!

I happened to be talking to Robert Morris from OurPaperFlowers.com the other day and he asked if I would like to review their craft ebooks (he and wife Jane run the business together). It occurred to be that there were a number of things here that were of interest to crafters – not just their paper flower books, so here we go!

The Art of Making Paper FlowersFirst off, from a craft business point of view, look how clear and professional the site is. No beating about the bush, if you want to learn how to make paper flowers, this is where to get the info!

They also have a free newsletter. I’m always going on about how important it is for you to be able to stay in touch with your craft site visitors and here’s that in action.

There’s a short video, and then some content detail that tells you what you can expect, all backed up with that important money-back guarantee which reassures customers that they aren’t taking any risks by buying either of the books. Finally they help you out with a link to where you can actually get the materials to make paper flowers, just in case you’re stuck

But what about the paper flower making books themselves?
